Welcome to the AJP blog!

Don't let the company name fool you. Andrea Jae Photography is actually a pair of best friends who strive to create fresh images and fun experiences for the people who invite us into their stories.

I'm Andrea, the main blogger, life sharer, and laughter lover. Renata is the detail shooter, pray-er, mother (of two!), and sanity keeper. We shoot every wedding and session together and wouldn't have it any other way.

Over the past year, we have come to realize that our first love is not photography. It's love. The reason we throw ourselves into our work is because photography allows us to communicate love tangibly. Through our pictures, we strive to share love and tell its story. We are the people who believe that love can actually change the world. We want to tell people about it. Photography enables us to do so.

Feel free to use the menu bar to find out more about us, see our work and say hello! Thanks for joining us in this little adventure we are so blessed to be on.

Carolyn & Tim :: Baltimore Engagement

As I’m finally getting around to posting this engagement session we shot in November (sorry, Carolyn & Tim!), I’m remembering the feel of the whole session.  There’s something so classic about Carolyn and Tim.  Looking through the images again, I’m so struck by the colliding of classic, fun and love.  I’d say that’s a pretty good description of the two of them!

We shot down around Federal Hill and the surrounding area, right at the prime time for fall colors.  Carolyn & Tim were naturals!

Mmm, gotta love Federal Hill Park!

Renata grabbed this one on a whim!  A little different from our normal style, but I love it!

Catalog models, anyone?

Work it, Carolyn! :)

I love this next series - so fun!

And I’ll end with the location gem of the year:

Carolyn & Tim, you two were so fun to shoot!  Can’t wait until your wedding!

Sunday - February 7, 2010 Emily Abril - Beautiiifulll!!! Love it!

Friday - February 5, 2010 Tara - I am getting remarried to Ben. Soooo, I'd like to book you for my engagement shots soon. No one else knows about our 2 1/2 year renewal of vows... but that's it, I am doing it so I can absolutely take advantage of you and Renata. That is all.

Friday - February 5, 2010 April E. - Andrea, Your pictures are outstanding. You and Renata are amazing! I will be looking at pictures for the next 45 minutes now!! :P I am just getting into photography and starting to drool over the next desired love in my life...a new Canon Rebel T1i....*drooool* Any advice for the beginners??

Thursday - February 4, 2010 janaiha - ahhhh! loved the pictures on the pier.

Four score and seven years ago…

…we had a vibrant, exciting, breathing blog.  Today, and over the past couple of months, the blog has become merely a portfolio.  This is sad to me!  And completely my fault!

Remember back in April when I promised daily blogs?  I’m not sure how long that lasted, but it wasn’t long.  I am sorry.  This is my official apology.  We are still here, we are still excited about photography and life and we are trying to get back into the swing of things!

Currently, my life revolves around my ever increasing waist and ever decreasing calendar days to my due date.  I certainly don’t want to inundate you with baby paraphernalia, especially since we are wedding photographers!  But, it may happen my friends.  Just being honest. :)

Over the next two months, we’re going to be making some big changes.  A NEW website, a NEW blog, a NEW logo.  Whew!  It’s a little overwhelming just to think about.  I am not promising daily blogs.  BUT I am promising to bring back TMI Tuesdays (remember those?) and perhaps a Living Room Session or two.  And if you love us, you will leave us suggestions that you may want to know about in either of those two blog features. :)

This week and next week, be on the lookout for 3 wedding posts and an engagement session!  And because this IS a photography blog, here’s a little something to drool over:

Thursday - February 4, 2010 janaiha - wooo! TMI Tuesdays! can't wait =)

Wednesday - February 3, 2010 Ashley Davis - Another FANTASTIC photo! I'm looking forward to working with you lovely ladies soon! :)

Randa & Kareim :: Washington, DC Engagement

I love a great match.  When Renata and I first met Randa, the three of us sat in a Starbucks and just chatted.  Like old friends would.  Comfortable, fun, relaxed.  A great match.  On the day of their engagement session, we met up in DC and we met Kareim for the first time.  We got to observe how he made Randa laugh and how the two of them got lost in each other.  A great match.

Many thanks to Maria for referring Randa & Kareim to us, as she will be a bridesmaid in their wedding!

We started in Federal Triangle, which has become one of our favorite places to shoot.

Work it, Randa!

We headed over to the WWII Memorial as the sun was going down…gorgeous!

I think this one is my favorite:

Randa and Kareim, we can’t wait for your wedding!  Thanks for a great session!

Monday - February 1, 2010 maria - YAY! they're just radiating happiness and love...you + renata captured them perfectly! beautiful shots. i love all of the 1.2 yumminess :) can't wait for may!!

Megan & Hung :: Tysons Corner Wedding

I think wedding toasts say a lot about a couple.  The most important people in their lives, be it the maid of honor, best man or parent, stand up to not only congratulate the newly married couple, but have the chance to let everyone know why the marriage will work.  I think that wedding toasts are one of the most celebratory things at a wedding reception.

Megan & Hung were toasted by three people, who each had us rolling laughing, misty eyed and touched.  The genuine friendships in their lives, the sweet story of how they met and the sincere congratulations and well wishes were overwhelming.  Definitely our favorite toasts.

We only met Megan and Hung the week before their wedding to do a quick engagement session, then it was on to the big day!  We were extremely welcomed there and had a great time, even with a little rain!

I met up with Megan and her mom at the salon, where Megan was already looking gorgeous!

Renata grabbed this shot of Hung:

The church was simple and beautiful!

After the ceremony, we headed downtown to Union Station.  Renata and I got to ride with the guys :)

The entire wedding party braved the cold!  We’re glad they did - we love these shots!

Our favorite part of the day is always hanging out with the bride and groom.  Hung and Megan were awesome!

My personal favorite:

The reception was at the Tyson’s Corner Westin, which was coordinated beautifully.

And I’ll end it with some great reactions to the heartfelt toasts:

Megan & Hung, we had a blast with you guys!  Thanks for making us feel so welcome!

Saturday - January 16, 2010 TJ - Wow, these came out really well! The Train station pics came out really nicely and have a cozier feel than the train station actually was that day. Nice work!

Friday - January 15, 2010 Megan - Love the photos! Great job!

Anna & Aaron :: Annapolis Engagement

The best part of our job hands down: meeting people we wouldn’t have otherwise.  People who, when we meet them, we wonder how we weren’t friends already.  People who know how to love and whose lives encourage us, even with a small glimpse.  Anna and Aaron are such people.

Even though it was a little chilly, we headed downtown to Annapolis where our engagement session was full of fun and a couple of interesting happenings, including Anna’s boot, an eager dog and Aaron’s poor jacket. :)  It was a great way to hang out before their March wedding!

We spent a lot of time at this wall.  Even though it was the site of the unfortunately jacket incident, we got some great shots!

I love this one:

Renata and I both screamed when we saw this first shot in the back of the camera.  Gorgeous!

If you’ve been shot by us, you know there’s nothing like a good makeout session :)

Anna and Aaron, we loved hanging out with you!  Just 3 short months to GO!

Saturday - January 9, 2010 Erin - The lighting in the second one made my jaw drop. Love it :]

Friday - January 1, 2010 kaley - This makes me miss Annapolis! Bring your baby and camera to the West Coast, maybe your pictures would make me love it more!

Jamie & Brook :: Georgetown Engagement

It’s true.  Right before they get proposed to, a lot of us ladies are annoyed.  Our man has been acting weird all day and is insistent we do things a certain way.  We just don’t understand.  Then he pops down on one knee, opens that bling box and we get it.  We’ve heard it a thousand times!

Jamie confessed that their engagement day was a lot like this.  After a nice day in Georgetown, she couldn’t understand why Brook was insisting they kayak to Roosevelt Island.  And why did they have to find a specific beach on the island?  Why couldn’t they just eat their cupcakes in peace?  Then, Brook popped down on one knee…and she got it.  :)

Jamie & Brook are a contagiously fun couple!  Seriously, try hanging out with them and not laughing.  We shot at their proposal spot, on Roosevelt Island, before going across the water to Georgetown.  One of our favorite sessions ever!

First shot of the day:

When Jamie is told to work it, she doesn’t mess :)

This was one of the only fall sessions we shot with actual sunshine!  Nothing like a little sun flare and a film-y feel:

Renata’s gorgeous flare shot:

Almost the exact spot where they got engaged:

Renata and I love shooting together; it’s always so nice to get different perspectives!

A little more sun flare:

Recognize this spot in Georgetown?  We totally went back to the same spot we shot Maria & Drew last spring!

This shot was Brook’s request :)

See how fun they are?  (And how funny we are? :) )

Dear Brook, thanks for the man sass. :)

Jamie & Brook, we loved, loved, loved your engagement session!  Can’t wait to have some more fun on your wedding day!
